The Australian Government is committed to increasing employment opportunities for people with disability by equipping DES participants with the necessary education and training to secure long-term employment. From 1 January , education placements will be prioritised for training courses that are relevant to recognised skills shortages.

People with disability will be at the centre of the new disability employment support model. Commencing mid, the Government will consult widely with key stakeholders including people with disability, their families and carers, disability peak organisations, employers, and DES Providers.

The new disability employment support model will be designed to operate in the current employment landscape, and will identify further opportunities to break down barriers to employment for people with disability. It will be designed to meet the needs of people with disability and employers, providing appropriate supports to help place the right people into the right employment positions.

The design of a new disability employment support model will also consider developments in the New Employment Services Model and other employment and related services, and will be developed in consultation with relevant Government departments including the Department of Education, Skills and Employment DESE and Services Australia.

The DES Star Ratings system measures the relative success of providers in achieving longer term employment outcomes for participants taking part in the DES program.
