Turn off services for gaming

You can check the services Name , Ban Rate the percentage of people who disable this service , Status , Advice, and Mode in the interface. When the mouse cursor hovers on one service, you can check its description. Step 3: To disable the unnecessary services, you can directly click the Disable button at the end of your service row.

Or you can check the Ban Rate—the percentage of the people who disable this service to make your decision. Finally, you can get into the Service Log to check the operation you make. The Restore operation is set to help you retrieve the service to the original status.

Many components or applications may go wrong and you will be in trouble. If you are not confident about the disable operation, you can make the unnecessary service startup type to be Manual. With service in manual status, it will not start automatically along with Windows startup. Also, the service can start when Windows or other components need it.

Framerates, stuttering, and overall playability were noted for each, where applicable. Apps and services were halted or started with a combination of the task manager, system configuration app, and the services manager from the Microsoft management console in an operation limited to less than two minutes of tweaking and a single reboot.

Normal systems had all desktop applications closed except an explorer window and a single browser tab, to simulate standard usage scenarios. Stripped systems had all startup items such as system tray utilities removed, non-essential services disabled, and most background tasks terminated prior to testing. Long a favorite with RPG aficionados, Torchlight is easy on system resources and a perfect laptop game. Two scenes were selected for testing, one in town with plenty of people milling around, and one at the entrance to a dungeon.

Two scenes from Dead Center, one inside a safehouse and another overlooking a street, were used for resting frame rate numbers along with a playthrough of the second level to check for stuttering or other gameplay issues.

Results were again noticeably higher post system strip-down, and although the measured bump was mostly in the fps range, the subjective results were even more pronounced during the level playthrough. Averaging 28 fps with minimums dipping to just 21 fps, this game is the most demanding of the three and feels a little too choppy to play properly with standard system overhead at x Racing games are better than most at dealing with low framerates, but this much time below 30 fps ruins the rally rush.

I haven't run any benchmarks to see the actual difference but it has absolutely no noticable impact on any of my games or applications. That's why I couldn't do it! I kept using "task kill", instead of "taskkill". Silly me. And I thought I remembered As something extra, instead of your IP address, you should be able to use your user name. This might make it a bit easier and self-explanitory.
